Western Arkansas Master Naturalist’s “Plant This Not That” display was well received at the Fort Smith Lawn & Garden show. Gardeners are vested in nature, of course, so conversations were lively about what foreign species were more harmful than benign and what native species would do well in their place. For more information, click here to see Fayetteville’s excellent resources about native alternatives to popular but invasive foreign landscaping plants.
Show visitors were split between long-time residents of the river valley who were interested in fine-tuning their local gardening technique and new residents getting oriented. All were interesting to talk with and we shared tips back and forth.
One feature of the WAMN booth was the raffle for “Edible Wild Plants” by John Kallas. This is an well-written book that WAMNers in the booth were happy to flip through when crowds were thin. Our jar was full of entries but Bob L. was the lucky winner. Congratulations, Bob!
