Words by Katherine Becker and Robin Harris.
Saturday, May 6th, the very first 17 Naturalists in Training (NITs) of the Foothills of Arkansas Master Naturalists (FAMN) met at the Woolly Hollow State Park for graduation ceremonies. In order to qualify, all NITs completed the required 40 hours of training.
Before the graduation ceremony the Curriculum Chairperson, Katherine Becker, gave thanks and appreciation to four FAMN members who had gone above and beyond the call of duty to help establish FAMN: Bob Verboon, Margaret Morrell, Joe Wankum and Tom Nowlin. They were given FAMN T-shirts and a warm round of applause. Next, the President, Tom Nowlin, held a short business meeting outlining activities and meetings through December, 2017. Officers for FAMN were officially voted in.
During the graduation ceremony Tom and Katherine presented each FAMN (not a NIT anymore!) a tshirt and certificate, followed by a resounding round of applause.
After graduation, the group celebrated by breaking bread over a wonderful potluck lunch. Family members also attended which added to the great fellowship on a wonderful spring day in the park.
